Business email compromise (BEC) scams target specific individuals with emails that direct them to send money to “new” bank account for trusted business leaders, partners, customers, employees, or homebuyers. BEC fraud has resulted in more losses than any other type of fraud in the U.S, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). This serious and growing fraud has tripled over the last three years and jumped 50% in the first three months of 2019 compared to the same period in 2018. In 2018, 80% of businesses received at least one of these emails.
Join us from 12-1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, as we welcome BBB International Investigations Specialist Steve Baker, who will give us BEC red flags, real-life examples and tips on what to do if your business is a victim of this scam.
This webinar is free to attend. If you are unable to attend but wish to receive the recording or slide deck, please send an email to lkirchmyer@upstatenybbb.org.
